Somebody's Watching Me!!!!!

My Political Science class was very interesting today. The theme of today was "The Panopticon" Mr. Shyam asked," Would Panopticon work in the USA?" We all had different comments as usual. Most of us said" H*LL NO!!!!!!!!! We would not like it one bit!!! Panopticon, or a mechanism of control where people know that while they are not watched all the time, they may be watched at any time. To a certain degree, we are kinda in that state. For instance, one's cell phone records could be monitored and also ones actions as well (security cameras). For homework, our reading assignment was the book 1984, written by George Orwell . In this book, a rebellious man named Winston did not like the totalitarian society which he lives in. This poor man and other are watched ALL THE TIME!! (I would grow quite mad!!) Winston wants to think, live and love on his free will so he keeps a diary of his thoughts....... I said his thoughts !
Anyway, our society is a democracy, and to be a democratic society one must have civil liberties and not be watched and controlled by the government.

In other news..... We did not talk about this issue in class but I hope we discuss it in the HaP Club meeting today. I was kinda disturbed by the billboards in Atlanta in regards to BLACK CHILDREN . I HATE the fact black children are labeled "endangered" because my babies are not a species, they are human beings. IT IS VERY DEGRADING TO SAY THAT!!!
This billboard was a wake up call because it says that more black women in Georgia are getting abortions at a higher rate than other race. Fertility rate among black women is high. On another note, I think the message is saying that we as black women need to wake up and realize, without having our children, are we destroying the black community? Yes, I know a young woman may not have a planned pregnancy and know that the father is not going to be there for her and the baby, but there is a responsibility that must be put in play. Abortion is sometimes look upon as a way to control poverty in the black community. All these children to feed cloth and take care of.....It is a mind set!!! children does not make anyone poor. It is how you use your resources.

Across the board....the abortion rate is higher for whites but the pregnancy rate is higher among Black sand Latinas.

Hey Hey This is what I gotta say.......

I am going to enjoy my Political Science class. Freedom to express our views of what is going on in todays society and taking actions to making things better is alright with me!!
